The head of our practice is Dr. William L. Dowden, a native Kentuckian from Louisville. Dr. Dowden attended the University of Kentucky where he graduated with a degree in chemistry in 1966. He then went on to graduate from the University of Kentucky Medical School in 1970. He served as Chief Resident in General Surgery in 1974 and 1975 at the University of Kentucky, and Chief Resident in Plastic Surgery from 1975 to 1976. He became board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery in 1978 and has worked as a plastic surgeon in the area surrounding Lexington, KY and Georgetown, KY since then. Dr. Dowden has also taught several courses on facial contouring, liposuction and facial rejuvenation. He also introduced transaxillary augmentation mammaplasty (also known as the "armpit approach") to Kentucky hospitals in 1982, and it's believed that he performed the first uni-pedicle and bi-pedicle TRAM flaps for breast reconstruction in the area back in 1993. Dr. Dowden remains dedicated to discovering and implementing the latest technology and surgical techniques and to minimizing the invasiveness of the many procedures offered by Dowden Plastic Surgery.
