Description
Pilates is more than a trend. Invented by Joseph Pilates in the 1930s, this body-mind exercise and rehab regimen has been embraced by a diversity of students. Many approach it with the goal of improving their appearance and become devotees because of how great it makes them feel. Pilates focuses on core strength as the powerhouse of the body. As Joseph Pilates said, "You are only as old as your spine is strong." In Pilates, ultimate spine strength is achieved through abdominal and core support. The movements also aim to increase overall strength and flexibility, range of motion and develop a balanced musculature. Beyond its overall conditioning benefits, Pilates is also adaptable for the rehabilitation of injury, and can be used to focus strength training or range of motion work on one side or area of the body. At Flow Studio, our instructors are highly trained and can assist with goals ranging from pain management, core stabilization and joint mobilization, to total body conditioning for all levels of fitness including professional athletes and dancers. Pilates overall benefits are numerous and include: - relief of pain due to muscle imbalance - improved posture and bio-mechanical function - greater muscle length and tone - increased strength and flexibility - enhanced body-mind awareness and performance - greater sense of well being and energy Flow offers both group and private lessons in mat work and on the full range of pilates equipment.
