Description
#3, November 2009 All are acrylic on paper, 30 x 22 inches unless otherwise noted. Scroll down for the paintings and notes about them, click the thumbnails for larger views. Note: #s2-5 November 2009 were painted on Strathmore Aquarius II watercolor paper. After the first two, I found that the paper was too flimsy for the kind of physical mass I like in my work. But, since I still had two pieces left, I decided to use them up by making a "Petite Suite" in the manner of German lieder or French art songs. The words (if any) on the paintings are the words to the songs. The rest of what's there in each image is the cello accompaniment. If there are no words, the studio note below the painting tells what the composer was thinking when he wrote the music. So, below, the four songs from Le Petite Suite #2, November 2009 What it says on the painting-- "There will come sunset, there will come dawn. Only wait, you will see." #3, November 2009 What it says on the painting-- "?" #4, November 2009 The painting was begun at twilight, (the Studio Notes say, "In the gathering dusk") and then I heard how "collision begets life" and wrote on the painting "Oh how it hurts." #5, November 2009. The Studio Notes say this is "Stele still standing with waters of life streaming down..."
