GELATI-DA® is a true re-creation of THE WORLD'S ORIGINAL ICE CREAM® that has been Italy’s/Europe’s favorite frozen dessert for over 475 years. Whereas the first gelato was created circa 1533 A.D. in Florence, Italy, GELATI-DA was created in 1985, by David Cannon in his gelateria (Italian ice cream parlor) located on the Downtown Skyway Level of Donaldsons Dept. Store at City Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota USA. DAVID’s GELATI has since closed but the centuries-old, trade secret recipes live on through GELATI-DA.

After first being exposed to gelato as a college student travelling extensively in Italy the summer of 1975, in November 1981, David trained exclusively with two, Italian Guild Master gelato makers from Treviso, Italy. During the past 29 years, he has developed and perfected well over 150 flavors of “gelato” (ice cream) and “sorbetto” (non-dairy, real fruit water ices). Gelati Co. is currently a closely-held, privately-owned, Minnesota Corporation dedicated to developing, manufacturing and marketing highest quality, lower fat/calorie authentic Italian dairy and non dairy-based frozen confections and novelties to our consumers and foodservice customers in the US and future select global markets.

GELATI-DA ® is a proprietary brand of Gelati Co., a Minnesota corporation founded in 1982, by David Cannon, a "gelatiere" (Master class Italian ice cream maker) since 1985, and a Twin Cities native. Gelato is the Italian word for ice cream – the world's first ice cream. Gelati-da is a true re-creation of the original great flavor and texture of gelato circa 1533 A.D. Florence, Italy. It just happens to be lower in fat, calories and cholesterol than any dairy-based (non yogurt) ice cream or other gelato in the market place today.
