Senior Project Manager, is dedicated to combining practical design solutions with real world sensibilities. With almost twenty years of experience in the industry, Randy is astutely aware of the constructability of a design, and how to minimize a client’s expense without sacrificing a project’s delivery. He is a graduate of the Davis School of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design at West Virginia University, and at H&G, he has excelled at getting the job done right, within budget, and on time.

Senior Principal, graduated from Ohio State University, the Knowlton School of Landscape Architecture, and for over 30 years, he has accumulated an extensive and award-winning portfolio in landscape architectural design and planning. Dave’s background as in-house planner for a civil engineering firm, then subsequently a successful land developer, presents a perceptive insight into balancing aesthetics and productivity. Since taking the helm in 2000, he catapulted what was a struggling firm into the preeminent landscape architectural and land planning firm in the region.

Over the decades, developers have established the value of bringing Higgins & Gerstenmaier Landscape Architects into the land development planning of a project from its inception, to ensure that buildings are placed for optimal performance to take advantage of every possible natural resource, beautiful view or avoid potential site issues. Senior Principal, Dave Gerstenmaier, began his career at a civil engineering firm; as a result, his planning approach consists of a rare balance between careful, practical commercial considerations, and award-winning, tasteful design.

For six decades, Higgins & Gerstenmaier Landscape Architects has honored the values of preservation and environmental responsibility on which our profession was founded. The outdoor landscape presents a unique and varied opportunity for advancing our vision to purify the earth. Since Virginia’s first LEED project was certified in 2010, H&G Landscape Architects has been a leader in sustainably designed landscapes. We have completed dozens of LEED certified, and another two H&G projects were rated 4 Globes by the Green Globes Initiative.
