Stockton Lake, Missouri... Stockton Lake was formed in 1969 when the dam east of Stockton was closed. The lake reached its normal pool elevation of 867 feet above sea level in December 1971. It is operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and has 25,000 surface acres of water and 33,000 acres of public land. Stockton Lake has 10 public use areas, 7 of which have fees collected by park attendants and 3 which have fees collected by ranger staff. Each area has a boat ramp close by for public use and there are beaches in 5 of the areas.
