“Information wants to be free.” I design tools that deal with the consequences. I want to see the web help us come to a better understanding of each other and the world we inhabit together. To that end, I have been helping companies turn good ideas into clever products for over fifteen years. My focus is design, but my contribution frequently extends into product strategy, brand development and software engineering. I love working through the perceived boundaries between these disciplines. In July 2010, I joined Google as part of the Metaweb acquisition . I had been at Metaweb for four and a half years, where I helped create Freebase , a massive collaboratively-edited entity graph of people, places and things, made accessible through a powerful API and Creative Commons licensing. It's really exciting to be taking that work to Google scale. I also work with The Long Now Foundation on projects including Long Bets , an arena for making long-term bets about the future.
