Company History On April 12, 1979 the state of Oklahoma would gain what is now it’s most prominent and longest running African-American newspaper in Oklahoma, The Black Chronicle Newspaper.Established in April of 1979 by Russell M. Perry, The Black Chronicle Newspaper, focuses on issues pertaining to and affecting the African-American community in the areas of business, politics, religion, education, health, sports, entertainment, and much more.In 1993, Mr. Perry decided to venture outside of the world of publishing and into the world of broadcast radio. In ’93, he purchased his first radio station, KVSP 1140 AM radio. Since Mr. Perry was intent on accommodating a market that had long been unsatisfied, KVSP would become the state’s only Urban radio station. With the success of KVSP, Mr. Perry made a decision to branch outside of the Oklahoma City area.
