Later, Illinois published a second newspaper which was called Illinois Emigrant. This was founded in Shawneetown in the Ohio River, which was followed afterwards by Edwardsville Spectator in 1819. At this time, the town boasts about 70 homes; a courthouse; a bank; a jail and land office, all of these were slight signals of the fast northward shift within the populace growth. Over the next several years, numerous newspaper publications could be seen as this increased with the amount of citizens.
