At Nuvera Fuel Cells, we believe a hydrogen society will exist within 20 years when fuel cells will be the power of choice. Between now and then, we see a gradual transition taking place. The near-term market opportunities for fuel cells will address applications such as forklift trucks and off-road equipment. In the mid-term, the technology will begin to progress to commercial applications, perhaps as small cogeneration systems. And eventually, fuel cells will penetrate the automotive market, first in the form of gasoline fuel cell vehicles and ultimately as hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.Because hydrogen plays an integral role in the operation of a fuel cell, it is important to keep in mind infrastructure and sourcing requirements. Most experts predict it will cost hundreds of billions of dollars and take several decades to replace today's global hydrocarbon fuel infrastructure with a hydrogen distribution system. Interim steps that use fuel-processing technology, which converts hydrocarbon fuels like gasoline and natural gas into hydrogen, will be critical to introducing fuel cells to the mass public until such time that hydrogen becomes easily accessible and available to the average consumer.Our goal is to provide innovative PEM fuel cell and fuel-processing products for the industrial vehicles and equipment, combined heat and power generation, and automotive industries that meet the growing demands and interests of manufacturers, end users, and governments around the world.
