Senomyx is a biotechnology company using proprietary taste receptor-based assays and screening technologies to discover and develop novel flavor enhancers and taste modulators for the packaged food and beverage industry. We believe that our novel flavor ingredients will enable packaged food and beverage companies to improve the nutritional profile of their products and generate cost of goods savings, while maintaining or enhancing taste. We license our flavor ingredients to our collaborators on an exclusive basis, which we believe will provide these companies with the ability to differentiate their products. The Company’s current flavor enhancer programs focus on the development of savory, sweet and salt flavor enhancers which will allow for the reduction of MSG, sugar and salt in food and beverage products. In addition, the Company has a bitter modulation program to improve the taste of food, beverage and pharmaceutical products.We have entered into product discovery and development collaborations with four of the world’s leading packaged food and beverage companies: Campbell Soup Company, The Coca-Cola Company, Kraft Foods Global, Inc. and Nestlé SA. These collaborations provide for research and development funding, milestone payments based upon achievement of research or development goals and royalties on future sales of products incorporating our flavor enhancers and taste modulators. Each of the agreements provides that Senomyx will pursue discovery and development of flavor enhancers or taste modulators for use by the collaborators within defined exclusive packaged food and beverage product fields. We are primarily responsible for the discovery, development and regulatory approval phases and while the collaborator will be responsible for manufacturing, marketing, selling and distributing the consumer products containing the Senomyx flavor ingredients. This will allow us to benefit from our collaborators’ well-establish ed brand recognition, global market presence, established sales and distribution channels and other industry specific expertise.At Senomyx, we expect to continue to establish product discovery and development collaborations with leading consumer products companies in multiple segments of consumer product markets. We will continue to enhance and protect our technology position through the establishment of intellectual property protection on our discoveries.
