Description
Splendora is located approximately 40 miles northeast of Houston on U.S. Highway 59. Towering pine trees, rolling hills, and many lakes contribute to the scenic atmosphere and prolific wildlife. Nestled in the scenic “Big Thicket” area, Splendora boasts a rural population over 12,000. Part of Splendora’s charm is the “down-home” country atmosphere. The community holds an annual “Founder’s Day” fair in May, which includes everything from arts and crafts to a country and western street dance. In addition, Splendora ISD offers continuing education classes in the evening through our Community Education Program and the Kingwood College District.Splendora ISD encompasses an area of 72 square miles and a student population of 3,000+, and although it’s rapidly growing, it is still the smallest school district in the county. Maintaining small-school charm, but providing large-school technology, Splendora residents take pride in its school district. Many residents volunteer to be on campus/district improvement teams, are active in the PTA, and assist in educational programs.Beginning the 2005-06 school year, Splendora ISD will have two elementary schools. Peach Creek Elementary (formerly Splendora Primary) and Greenleaf Elementary (formerly Splendora Elementary) will house pre-kindergarten through fourth grade students. An extensive renovation and addition were completed in 1996 at Peach Creek Elementary and an expansion wing and renovations were completed in 1999 at Greenleaf Elementary. Both campuses will accommodate over 700 students. Approximately 525 students in grades five and six comprise Splendora Intermediate School, which was renovated in 1993 and expanded in 1999. These three campuses are located east on FM 2090 and school hours are from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Located west on FM 2090 are the junior and high school campuses. The junior high is now housed in the previous high school building. Completed in 1992, the building can easily accommodate the 550 seventh and eighth grade students. Adjacent to the junior high campus, is the newest addition in the district – Splendora High School. Opened in August 2004, the 19 million dollar high school houses over 800 students in grades nine through twelve. Both the junior and high school campuses operate from 7:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m
