Subsistence Management Information

Description

Subsistence Management Information is a program led by United Fishermen of Alaska and aimed at increasing understanding of federal management of subsistence fisheries.In October 1999, the federal government assumed authority for management of subsistence fisheries on certain navigable waters in Alaska. Management decisions on those waters affect a range of other users, including commercial, subsistence, personal use, and sport fisheries managed by the State of Alaska.UFA believes that meaningful participation by an informed public is the basis of sound decision-making and good public policy. Consequently, UFA believes that all users who are, or may be, impacted by federal subsistence management should have access to information about the federal system, how it differs from state management, and how to effectively participate in the federal process.
