The Young People’s Baptist Union of Brooklyn and Long Island was organized in 1877 as a channel of Christian fellowship and service. They began as a summer camp ministry in 1909, known as the Fresh Air Home, and five years later, moved to the first camp property in Commack, New York. In 1961, Sunshine Acres was moved to its present location in Napanoch, New York. In 1971, the Lee Shank Lodge was dedicated, to the glory of God, as a facility for hosting retreat ministries during the fall, winter and spring. It also serves many of our summer program needs. The purpose of Sunshine Acres is to glorify God by providing an experience, in a natural environment, to facilitate leading the lost to personal acceptance of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and to build up the individual members of the body of Christ through a fuller knowledge of Christ in their lives. We believe that the Bible is the true, inspired and inerrant Word of the Triune God and it is the only standard of truth in faith and life for all those who call upon Jesus Christ as Savior. All of our ministry shall be to the glory of God, without exception or compromise. It has been our privilege and joy over the years to bring the Good News of Jesus Christ to boys and girls from all walks of life. Thousands have enjoyed the sunshine of summer and have experienced God’s love in creation as presented to them through dedicated counselors and staff at Sunshine Acres.
