Fifty years ago, brothers, Dean and Rod Swanson, along with Ed Combs, founded Swanson Group as Superior Lumber Co. in Glendale, Ore. In 1973, Dean and Rod with brother Ray built the Swanson-Superior mill in Noti. Current President Steve Swanson led the purchase of Gregory Forest Products, Inc. in Glendale in 1992, followed by the formation of Superior Helicopter LLC in 1996, and the acquisition of Sun Studs in Roseburg in 2001. The next year all three companies began operating under the Swanson Group name.Today, we employ some 1000 people at four mill locations Glendale, Roseburg, Noti and Glide. We also intensively manage some 145,000 acres of forestlands throughout Western Oregon. Sustained forest practices like our standard management policy of exceeding the requirements of the Oregon Forest Practices Act underscore our long-term commitment to forest health and viability. Each year, we plant over a million seedlings on our land.Our connection to the land comes from the simple fact that our owners and employees live and work in the rural areas of Oregon.
