Doug Smith has served as President and CEO of Vital Access since he joined the company in 2008. Prior to working with Vital Access, Doug successfully founded and directed multiple companies. In 1991, Doug co-founded HealthRider, Inc., serving first as its Director of Media then as its Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. HealthRider, which reached $241 million in sales, was acquired by the world’s largest home fitness manufacturer in a private transaction. In 1997, Doug co-founded UCN, Inc., serving in the office of the President as an executive Vice President, where he was responsible for all aspects of marketing, sales, and customer service, including brand strategy, advertising, promotions, and corporate communications. UCN, now inContact, is now traded publicly on NASDAQ. From 2006 until 2008 when Doug joined Vital Access, he was President of Zerorez Franchising Systems. Mr. Smith has over 20 years of experience in managing companies and in building successful sales, marketing, and customer service organizations, and has served on the Board of Directors for numerous companies.

Vital Access designs and manufactures surgical and interventional technologies to improve vascular access for patients and their caregivers. Vascular access challenges have driven the company to develop the VWING Vascular Needle Guide, which is currently approved for use in markets such as the United States, Canada, Europe and New Zealand.

Mr. Berger has served as Secretary/Treasurer and a director of Vital Access since its incorporation in Delaware in July 2006 and served as a director of the Company from 2006 to 2008. Mr. Berger has also been employed by E.B. Berger, Inc., a Utah based specialty subcontractor construction company since 1976. Mr. Berger co?founded Rubicon Medical in 1996 and served as its Chairman of the Board from 2000 until Rubicon was acquired by Boston Scientific Corporation in 2005. Mr. Berger received his B.S. in Business Administration from Weber State University and joined E.B. Berger, Inc. as a Project Manager after graduation. He was promoted to Department Director, Chief Financial Officer, and finally President and Chief Executive Officer of E.B. Berger, Inc. in 1983. Mr. Berger has over 27 year’s management experience in various aspects of construction management. He has additional experience in real estate development, industrial manufacturing, parts and components distribution, and medical device manufacturing. Mr. Berger has been instrumental in building E.B. Berger, Inc. to its current level of over 125 employees and has increased shareholder value considerably during his tenure.

Art comes to Vital Access with over twenty years of varied experience in the medical devices field. Prior to joining Vital Access, Art’s experience included a comprehensive background in Direct Sales, Global Strategic Marketing, and New Business Development management roles spanning laboratory and clinical diagnostics with Baxter Healthcare, interventional pain management with Kimberly-Clark Healthcare, and vascular access products at Bard Access Systems. Art received his Bachelor of Science in Agronomy from Michigan State University, and earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Arizona State University.

Vital Access Corp. was founded by Duane Blatter, MD and was incorporated in Salt Lake City, Utah in July 2006. The goal of the company was to develop less-invasive technologies to help patients requiring vascular access.
