Description
"We believe that the success of the Yuma County Federal Credit Union is dependent upon the satisfaction of our members. Therefore, we commit ourselves to offer competitive rates on investments & loans and to provide innovative products & exceptional member service." The goal of Yuma Federal Credit Union has been to meet the needs of our community since we first filed the charter on November 9, 1949. Our first president, Zella Berry, was truly a pioneer, spending hundreds of volunteer hours to launch the credit union. The year 1950 closed with 61 members and 24 outstanding loans, with assets totaling $3,706.00. Today our membership stands at over 2800 members, 1200+ loans outstanding, and total assets exceeding $17,670,000. We believe that bigger is not necessarily better; however, as we continue to offer competitive rates on investments and loans we have found that we are serving more of our community each year. In 1994 we changed our name to Yuma County Federal Credit Union when we opened a branch office in the Wray Shopping Center. Our credit union is a continuing success story with 9 employees. There are six full-time employees in Yuma, and 3full-time employees in Wray. One of the characteristics which distinguish credit unions from other financial institutions is the volunteer Board of Directors. These individuals serve without compensation and devote many hours to the welfare of the credit union. Membership meetings are held each year and control by members is exercised through annual elections of the Board of Directors. Each member has one vote regardless of the number of shares he or she has in the credit union. Some of the duties of the board include long-range planning, policy review, budget decisions and consideration of the new programs, rates and facilities. The position requires a dedication to protect the best interest of the credit union. We are fortunate to have five dedicated individuals serving on our Board of Directors. Our Supervisory Committee is made up of three credit union members. The committee is board appointed but acts independently of the board, the credit union President and staff. They also meet monthly to record all new and closed accounts, as well as to review loan files, and the overall condition of the credit union.
